Our President, Alan Howick has just published the history of our club and its formation, covering the history of cricket and Harlow’s involvement since 1761.

Copies are available in the club house (Sheila has a stock at £5 each) and also at his office in Gothic House, Old Harlow.

Alan said “I started going through copies of old newspapers and records from the mid 19th century back in the 1980’s and the collection of news cuttings, some artefacts from

Moor Hall Cricket club (with whom we merged around 1900) started to generate a story along with the games involvement within our community.

“I also established the approximate date we and two other cricket clubs started to use Marigolds, our beautiful and I feel unique cricket ground where the game has been played

for well over 140 years.

Harlow Cricket club has a proud heritage, as old as the MCC, older than Lord’s, older than ‘The Ashes’ history and would you believe an international cricketer who played with a certain ‘W G Grace’

The book asks questions, why did the magnificent stately manor houses of Mark Hall and Moor Hall be allowed to be lost to our community?

Both of their Victorian owners were enthusiastic cricket lovers and promoters of the noble game in Harlow.
