The 2023 Hamro Foundation Essex Senior League season got off to the worst possible start as the elements triumphed over the cricket. Persistent rain throughout the day saw players and supporters denied the opportunity of a barnstorming opening day clash against Harlow Town. It was the same story across the entire county, with one remarkable exception as Southend CC somehow managed to complete a full fixture in First XI Division 4 as they lost to Rainham by 5 wickets.

Fingers remain crossed that the very average looking forecast for next week improves to allow some cricket next weekend.
